The Insta-Slab is manufactured using CCT1 — a BBA-certified Concrete Canvas material consisting of three bonded layers: a UV-stabilised polyester top surface (the hydration surface), a high-density cementitious mix optimised for consistent water-to-powder ratio, and a 0.3mm fused LLDPE geomembrane backing. The standard grade supplied through Tank Depot is CCT1 at 5mm thickness, weighing 8 kg/m².

Load-transfer. The Insta-Slab distributes the weight of the structure placed on it across the substrate beneath — it does not bear structural load itself. This makes it ideal for above-ground tanks, sheds, outbuildings, and lightweight modular structures, but it is not suitable for houses, multi-storey buildings, or major civil infrastructure.

The CCT1 grade Insta-Slab reaches 45 MPa (6,527 psi) compressive strength at 24 hours from hydration. This is the independently verified figure from ASTM D8329 testing. It reaches an initial flexural strength of 4.0 MPa and a final flexural strength of 4.5 MPa.

Roughly 20 minutes for set-up and hydration. Installation times vary depending on slab size — a 9×9 ft slab will take longer than a 9×7 ft slab for a single operator. The 20-minute figure is accurate for a prepared site with a levelled sand bed already in place. Ground preparation (levelling and laying the 2cm sand bed) is not included in that figure and should be factored into your site plan.

Clear the area of any sharp objects larger than approximately 2 in (5cm). Level and compact the ground. Lay a 2cm (0.8 in) sand bed across the full slab footprint — this sand bed acts as a cushion that fills sub-base voids and prevents the LLDPE backing from being punctured by sharp edges once the tank or structure reaches full weight. No excavation is required beyond this.

It can be installed on most substrates including compacted soil, gravel, hardcore, and concrete. The pegging method changes based on the substrate — J-type pegs for soil, anchor bolts for rock or concrete. Contact our team if you are working on an unusual or particularly challenging substrate. The product cannot be installed on soft, waterlogged, or unstable ground without additional preparation.

Yes. Slabs are designed to be tiled and overlapped at the edges. When hydrated together, the overlapping edges bond as a single unified concrete surface — no adhesive, no additional hardware, no seams. This is how the OMNI 20 and OMNI 30 tanks are accommodated using the standard 9×9 ft and 9×7 ft slab sizes available through Tank Depot.

Via brass eyelets spaced around the perimeter, which accept four pegging options depending on substrate: J-type pegs (compacted soil, standard agricultural use), rounded-headed pegs (flush surface requirement near foot traffic), metal edge strips (exposed edge stability), or anchor bolts (rock or concrete hardstanding). Pegs are supplied with the slab based on the substrate type specified at order.

The fibre reinforcement embedded within the cementitious matrix limits crack propagation — this is a fundamental design property of the Concrete Canvas CCT1 material. It can accommodate a high level of differential ground movement without compromising its structural integrity or permeability. It is not subject to the brittle fracture modes common in unreinforced poured concrete.

The CCT1 material retains a minimum of 80% of its initial flexural strength after 200 freeze-thaw cycles — tested to ASTM C1185. It is rated for outdoor use in climates with hard winters. Standard installation guidance applies during the curing window — if temperatures are forecast to drop significantly within the first 24 hours of hydration, contact our team for cold-weather installation guidance.

Yes. The LLDPE geomembrane backing is certified to DD CEN/TS 14416 root penetration resistance. It creates a barrier that prevents root structures from penetrating the slab and disrupting the base liner of any tank placed on top. Weed growth through the slab surface is also suppressed by the impermeable backing, eliminating the need for additional weed membrane beneath the slab.

The 120-year minimum expected structural life is independently assessed and certified by the British Board of Agrément under BBA Certificate 19/5685. This certification applies specifically to the CCT1 (5mm) material grade. It does not mean the structure placed on the slab will last 120 years — it means the slab material itself is certified to perform structurally for that duration under expected loading and environmental conditions.

Yes. The Insta-Slab is not exclusive to OMNI tanks. It provides a compatible load-transfer base for any flat-bottom above-ground storage tank — poly tanks, steel tanks, and other above-ground liquid storage systems.
